 Birthdays are august occasions for the stars to boost their image and fan following. But not for Ajith. On his 40th birthday last Sunday, the Tamil actor – popularly called Thalai — did the unthinkable by deciding to disband his all his fan clubs across the state. Remember, Ajith has the most number of fan clubs after Rajinikanth in Tamil Nadu. What was the trigger? For the first time after he took the “shocking decision”, Thalai has opened up to Bangalore Mirror, “It was a tough decision, but I had to take it. My fans associations have always been involved in philanthropic work. I really took pride in that. But of late, especially during the election time, I came to know that some members of my fans’ association had started misusing my name with reference to certain political parties. I came to know that even some monetary transactions took place in the context.” Though the actor has not named any particular party, it is learnt that some of the fans have started campaigning for the AIADMK-led front. The actor said, “I am finishing my 50th film Mankatha. I shall be failing in my duty if I fail to sincerely thank all those who have been associated in shaping my career so far. I thank all my fans, directors and well-wishers.” He added, “I have never exploited my fans’ goodwill for professional or personal advancement.” Calling a spade a spade has been Ajith’s hallmark always. Last year, when the entire Tamil film fraternity had gathered in Chennai with a view to honouring Chief Minister Karunanidhi, Ajith had shocked everyone by his plain talk. Starting from Rajinikanth to Kamal, all the stars showered praises on the DMK leader. Ajith said film stars, who are busy shooting elsewhere, should not be forced to attend such felicitations as it not only disturbs the work schedule, but also enhances the cost of production. The entire stadium fell silent before Rajinikanth rose from his seat and started clapping, much to the surprise of the crowd. Sources say fans from Sivagangai are now planning to meet Ajith and request him to reconsider his decision. Are Tamil actors getting jittery about their fan clubs? Ajith, one of the most popular stars in Tamil cinema with a huge fan base, has recently issued a press statement disbanding his fan clubs.On the eve of his 40th birthday (he celebrates his birthday today), the star stated that while he appreciated his fans’ work and dedication, it would be better for them to keep it apolitical. It looks like the actor has come to know that his fan clubs are being used to further the interests of certain political parties. The actor added that he had never used or exploited his fans for personal gain. However, he’s under tremendous pressure to reconsider his decision as it comes as a shock for fans who were planning to celebrate the actor’s birthday in a grand manner.
The star has taken a bold step to disband his well-oiled fan clubs, which are spread all over the state. He’s not the first actor to be troubled by such clubs. In Tamil Nadu, the mighty fans’ associations have always been a lucrative vote bank right from the days of MGR. In fact, Vijayakanth built his political career on the strength of his fan clubs.
The pressure on actors like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan from their fans to dive into the murky world of Tamil politics has forced the icons to play down their fan base. Associating with these actors seems to be on top of the priority list for politicians, most of whom made a beeline to Rajinikanth’s residence to get his blessings during the recent assembly polls.
Says Madurai-based Kumaravel, who has been affiliated to various fan clubs, “In the 80s and 90s, genuine fans used to spend money from their pocket to put up cut-outs of his hero. They also used to feed the poor on the day of release and generate an opening for the star. Today, professional politicians have hijacked the fan clubs and are using it to make money and cultivate vote banks.”
Meanwhile, a source close to Ajith says, “A majority of his admirers feel that he has taken the right decision, considering today’s highly-politicised atmosphere. Posters lauding his efforts have come up in Madurai. One of them say, ‘Thaliva, Ennaku Padaviyum Vendam, Iyakkam Vendam. Ungal Idayathil Idam Mattum Podum’ (’We don’t want any post, any club. All we want is a place in your heart.’) That mirrors the feelings of the genuine fan, who brings real happiness to Ajith sir.”

Why Ajith dissolved his Fans Club?
It has been an unceasing request from Thala to his fans on not to misuse his name and identity for the sake of their personal interests. This is not a decision taken just on the spur of moment, but our ‘Thala’ has been patiently discussing this issue with his close associates, family members and friends.
The closer sources reveal that it was before three months that ‘Thala’ started thinking over this plan. During the political election phase, some of the members of fans club from various parts of Tamil Nadu got themselves engaged in the corruption as they supported some political parties getting money and used ‘Ajith Fans Club’ brand during recent Tamil nadu elections.
As the issue reached the office of Ajith Kumar, he was shocked and quite disappointed with the fans for he has been ardently requesting them on not to misuse his name.
Now he has decided to connect with his diehard followers through an official website. The plans are going on and this will enable them to get connected with their ‘Thala’ without any interruptions.
But for us as Ajith fans, it is a real shame that some of the members have been a spoiler and disappointed him.

Ajithkumar's official birthday press release
Ajith Kumar, who would be racing hard in Formula 2 at Spain on May 1, has urged his fans not to celebrate his birthday in a grand manner.
In a statement from Spain, Ajith said, “I thank my ardent fans who had been with me during my success, defeats and travails. They have been my source of inspiration and strength. Since I would be racing in Spain on May 1 in Formula 2 championship, I request my fans not to take the trouble of coming to my house in Chennai or organise grand celebrations”.
He added: “If my fans can celebrate in such a way that would benefit the needy and down-trodden, it would be the best birthday gift to me from them.”

Kollywood star gets behind the wheel after six-year break
NO matter how many times fate took Kollywood star Ajith Kumar away from the race tracks, somehow he always found his way back.
A motorsports enthusiast all his life, Ajith began dabbling in bike racing before he joined the film fraternity. He was racing on and off and had competed in several international competitions including F3, Formula BMW Asia and the British F3 Championships.
The simple coincidences in his life are a mark of his deep rooted connection to the sport. His favourite racer Ayrton Senna — Brazilian driver and winner of three F1 races — died on his birthday, May 1; Ajith’s two-year-old daughter Anoushka was born on Michael Schumacher’s birthday, January 3; and Ajith’s first international race in 2003 was held on Ayrton’s birthday, March 21.

Now, the hero dubbed the Ultimate Star is back on the tracks after a six-year break for the F2 2010 that will be held in April in Europe.
Ajith was recently in Malaysia to test out his Formula Renault V6 car and StarMetro caught up with him to find out more about what makes him tick.
“I guess I have some unfinished business with racing. It feels like a homecoming,” he said.
Ajith added that he had come to Sepang as it was one of the best circuits and the logistics support here is amazing.
He had with him Korean racing team E’Rain and the services of Piers Hunnisett, one of the founders of Eurasia Sports Management.

Coming back to the track is not an easy transition and Ajith has done everything to ensure he is fit for the tracks. Besides training vigorously on the circuit, he has lost 11 kgs in two weeks with cardio and weight training.
The F2 race is a feeder series for the F1 races and many F1 bosses come to the races to keep an eye out for drivers. The first three winners from F2 would qualify for the Super licence.
Another feeder for the F1 is the GP2 but the cost is almost double that of the F2.
“The competition is going to be pretty intense. It is a huge exposure for all the drivers,” Ajith said.
Motorsports is definitely an expensive hobby and many companies are unsupportive of the other races except F1.
“They forget that in order for the racers to qualify for F1 they have to go through the other races as well,” said Ajith, who is in negotiations for his sponsorship.
However, for Ajith, F1 is not his ultimate goal, as he believes in competing to the highest level with his own talent and ability.
According to Ajith, motorsports are still a very niche hobby in India and he hoped his celebrity status would help expand the sport to the rural areas.
“Life is very short. Do not let the spark out of your life. Do the things you love to do,” he said.
This same enthusiasm and the support his family has shown him over the years are the reasons behind his repeated success as a racer.
Ajith, who is married to actress Shalini, said it was she who prompted him to get behind the wheel again.
“I was in a race meet last February and Shalini said she had not seen me so happy in a long time. She told me to pursue my dreams of racing,” he added.
His parents have also been behind his decision and Ajith plans to bring both Shalini and his daughter to Europe for the race.
Ajith had some words of wisdom to share with young racing enthusiasts who take to the streets to fulfil their passion.
“For those who enjoy speed, go to your local motor sports centre. There you can rent the venue for a few hours a day and race in a controlled environment,” he said.
As for his next movie venture, Ajith said the film starts shooting in October after the F2 race and the director will be Gautham Menon, famous for hits like Khakaa Khakaa and Vaaranam Aayiraam.

No quitting, only big strike from now on for Thala
Remember, the famous punch dialogue in Polladhavan uttered by Kishore ‘Avanukku Bayamillai, Avanalla Appadiyae Vittadanum’…. Ya! It’s so relevant with our real life superstar Ajith Kumar. He has no fears and his straightforwardness, honesty has made him so great across the global arenas. When some stupid personalities are creating publicities using his name, ‘Thala’ stands bold enough to confirm that nothing was wrong about his speech. So does the entire Kollywood and some political parties now. Yesterday, Congress Leader EVKS Elangovan stated that his entire party will render more support to the actor. Of course, with Superstar Rajnikanth himself making sure that he still ardently salutes Ajith for his speech.The other buzz was about rumors about ‘Thala’ quitting his filmdom. But that’s not true and he will continue acting in more films as well take part in races. We hear it from closer sources that Ajith Kumar’s next film with Gowtham Menon maybe shot in Great Britain. The reason revealed by them is the fact that ‘Thala’ has plans to take part in ‘Formula-2’ race to be held in London. So, if it all happens to be true, then it will be a double Dhamaka for all his fans. Anyways, the final discussion about this is slated to be held by end of this month.
